DISTRICT HOTEL
The bush-hammered concrete Hôtel du District on which Félix Houphouët-Boigny proclaimed the country's independence on August 7, 1960.
Built between 1954 and 1956 by Henri Chomette, the Abidjan City Hall, now the District Hall, is made of bush-hammered concrete, which gives it a massive appearance. Concrete panels are adorned with ochre quartz pebbles from the region. It then cuts through its modernity. For the anecdote, it is built according to the famous golden section, according to the geometrical proportions used in the constructions of Antiquity. It was on his forecourt that Félix Houphouët-Boigny proclaimed the country's independence on 7 August 1960.
