MUCAT
3,500 m² interactive museum dedicated to contemporary art in Côte d'Ivoire, offering educational workshops, school visits...
Inaugurated in March 2020, the Museum of Contemporary Cultures Adama Toungara (MuCAT) is a new place of extraordinary exhibitions, cultural meetings and art. It is an ambitious project covering 3,500 square meters, the first private museum dedicated to contemporary art in Côte d'Ivoire, ultra dynamic because it changes exhibitions every month. It is not by chance that the town of Abobo was chosen, the most popular town of Abidjan, and that admission is free, with the strong idea of democratizing art. Educational workshops, guided tours for schools, dance and music shows, the MuCAT is an interactive museum. But it also aims to be the reflection of African and international creation, but also the mirror of creativity for Ivorians. It wants to be a place of contemporary creation for the artists of Abidjan in particular, but also of Ivory Coast and international. The exhibitions raise artistic and societal issues. The one in September 2022, for example, from Islamization to the birth of a Sudanese style in the north of Côte d'Ivoire, was an iconographic focus on this region with beautiful old mosques. International photographers came to exhibit as the Franco-Israeli Deborah Sfez or the German artist Wolfgang Tillmans. We note the original exhibition Abidjan StreetAct which gave an approach all in performances of Ivorian artists on the diversity of street arts in Abidjan, with a studied staging of the street in the museum.
