ELSY GODIN
We discovered this artist thanks to her daughter Julie who owns a decoration shop in Caen (Scala, in this case). It is difficult to remain insensitive to the paintings of Elsy, so we decided to meet her. The house is located not far from the Battery Museum, do not hesitate to ask her for explanations by phone for the "radioguidage"! The workshop is open to visits during the day, and in the meantime, it is with all simplicity that Elsy welcomes you into her world. A world-famous artist, Elsy Gaudin is paradoxically less known in France, so we offer you the opportunity to discover this unique talent. Her paintings have a history, travel inspirations (Italy is very present), or capture a specific moment, women, music, carnival, colour, collages, small pieces of famous scriptures (Elsy is a graphologist by profession) included in the canvases, faces worked to the pulp of the fingers (the effect is penetrating), glazes, work with a knife, brush, gold leaf, transparency. It is, of course, reductive to describe Elsy’s paintings in this way, as they encompass all this and more. Incredibly sensitive canvases: The Choir, the Devil’s Advocate, the Young Man Lover, the Fisherman of Words… A moving journey and especially a meeting with a true artist who is kind enough to share a little of her world and the finesse of putting it within your reach, both in the same way as in herself. As we write these lines, she plans to exhibit in Caen, at rue Arcisse de Caumont, from July 2007. A must-see!
