MERVILLE REDOUBT
A small fortress steeped in history, listed as a Monument Historique, converted into a museum open in summer.
Built in 1760 under Louis XVI, to Vauban's plans, the Merville Redoubt, a small horseshoe-shaped fortress, was initially a rampart against maritime invaders. It was occupied by the Germans in 1940, and later included as part of the Atlantic Wall. In the years that followed, it fell into oblivion and disappeared amidst the dunes and vegetation. Thanks to a handful of volunteers, a restoration project was launched. Today, this beautiful place steeped in history has been converted into an exhibition space.
