A small fortress steeped in history, listed as a Monument Historique, converted into a museum open in summer.

Built in 1760 under Louis XVI, to Vauban's plans, the Merville Redoubt, a small horseshoe-shaped fortress, was initially a rampart against maritime invaders. It was occupied by the Germans in 1940, and later included as part of the Atlantic Wall. In the years that followed, it fell into oblivion and disappeared amidst the dunes and vegetation. Thanks to a handful of volunteers, a restoration project was launched. Today, this beautiful place steeped in history has been converted into an exhibition space.

It is a beautiful historic place that is unfortunately too rarely open to the public. It is possible to visit it on reservation, but I see it only open 2 times a year in the summer. However, these visits are free, with my great delight.
You can still come to tour of the building in any season but that brings little precise details when you does not have the explanations...
A place to visit if you sometimes happen to have the opportunity...
