It is unique and the basrelieves even if remade in the 50s are beautifully naif. The throne on the skulls is scary but not as the fly tool with a skull that is really horrid. Go and let me know!

Unmissable of a trip to Benin. Very good museum and efficient guides.

Only tourist site in Benin where I have more than two other tourists (and just another yovo; -))
I summarise you can: really excellent introduction to discover history of kingdom with considerable number of various objects and famous bas-reliefs polychrome récades and assin (mobile altars which can be devoted to an ancestor or a deity) and various royal buildings.
Our guide (a woman in a state of advanced pregnancy) our visit transformed into a real memorable experience. It rai excellent and clear French (essential for a poor German including me; -)) and gave us much (!) information pinch of legend and humour.
Could we enter all buildings, even the temple jexo/djêho (with barefoot and in the opposite direction of the aiguilles de a lookout - or the other way? I forgot) and the tomb of the king Glélé (no women if they have statue...) lá-bas - one of princesses serve a meal with the spirit of the king each market day, cleans the tomb and changes the sheets the bed!
Worth knowing: amazon people did not the best centres can make the arch, it is a legend.
A very recommended visit.

A very recommended visit.
