CLAVESANA CASTLE
The castle now houses the tourist office and the Ethnographic Museum of the Ligurian Ponente.
Dating back to the 12th century, it was the residence of the noble family of the Marquises of Clavesana, the Lords of Cervo. Like many castles, its original purpose was to defend the village against raids by marauders, Saracens and barbarians. It dominates Cervo - and Piazza Santa Caterina - and is an interesting and typical example of both medieval Ligurian civil and military architecture. Today, it houses the tourist office and the Ethnographic Museum of the Ligurian Ponente on the second floor.
