ISOLA GALLINARA
Island in the shape of a turtle that constitutes the Regional Nature Reserve of Gallinara Island.
From the beach at Alassio, you can't miss this strange turtle-shaped island. It's Gallinara, named after the moorhens that nested there in ancient times(gallina means "hen"). In the 4thcentury , it was the monastic refuge of Saint Martin of Tours and later the site of a Benedictine monastery. Today, the island itself forms the Gallinara Island Regional Nature Reserve, but can still be reached by boat. The Liguria Via Mare company offers boat trips from July to September.
