CATTEDRALE SAN MICHELE
Church preserving an intact gothic-romanic structure in Albénga.
Built in the 12th century on top of a 4th-century Paleochristian basilica, the cathedral's Gothic-Romanesque structure remains intact despite recent renovation. A magnificent campanile dating from 1395, together with the town hall tower, form the trilogy of justice, government and prayer towers. The interior retains remnants of the4th-century tiling, and beneath the presbytery is a Carolingian crypt. Several works of art are preserved inside, the most spectacular of which is the great Serassi organ, built between 1838 and 1840.
