CASTELLO DI MONTE URSINO
Castle built in the twelfth century by the Marquis Del Carretto
Built in the 12thcentury by the Marquis Del Carretto, the now dilapidated castle dominates the town. Amidst the ruins, a curtain wall remains, with towers, guard roads and a central keep to watch out for pirate or Saracen incursions. To get there, walk along the surrounding wall, which climbs from the town center up to the hill; the pleasant 15-minute walk (uphill, beware!) offers some stunning views of the surrounding landscape. A guided tour will reveal the castle's secrets.
