The days of street food addresses like these were thought to be long gone, but some are still going strong. A tiny store with an oven and deep-fat fryers, the Casa (house) de la Panizza still feeds workers and office employees in downtown Savona. Here, the chickpea flour-based dough ( panizza) is fried in large pots of oil and served between two slices of bread. It's not very light, but it's delicious! For dessert, try castagnaccio, a chestnut flour cake.
