Historical evocation of the rivalries between the republics of Genoa, Pisa, Amalfi and Venice, with regatta and costume parade.
An evocation of the historic rivalries that once pitted Genoa against the three other great maritime republics: Pisa, Amalfi and Venice. Every year since 1955, under the patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, one of the four cities has hosted the competition. Boatmen, in teams of eight rowers and a coxswain, attempt to win the race on typical galleys in the colors of the cities. A parade of over 300 extras in medieval costume precedes the regatta.
