On the weekend closest to June 29, the day of San Pietro, a maritime palio pitting the various districts of Genoa against each other has been organized since 1955. The festivities begin on Saturday with the presentation of the boats and crews, and a large festive dinner. The competition at sea takes place on Sunday between the seven teams. The festival also includes a parade in historical costumes evoking the era of the mighty Maritime Republic of Genoa.
