SANTA MARIA DELLE VIGNE
Church dedicated to the Virgin that was transformed in the seventeenth century into a baroque temple.
It is said that there was a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the neighborhood as early as the 6th century, the first sanctuary in Genoa dedicated to the Marian cult. In the 17th century, the church was transformed into a richly decorated baroque temple, which was later given a neoclassical façade. The church was heavily bombed in 1944. Noteworthy is the dome decorated with a cohort of 7 angels surrounding the Virgin Mary with the Child. Without forgetting the strange veneration of the "Virgin of Milk"; painted on a marble column in the 13th century, it is venerated by pregnant women.
