Church among the oldest buildings in Genoa.
At the end of the colorful Via di Pré, the Commenda di San Giovanni hospital, dating from 1180, is one of Genoa's oldest buildings. This singular two-storey structure, run by the Hospitaller brothers, served as a home for merchants, knights and pilgrims, poor or rich, of all faiths, generally returning from crusades. Today, the site is home to the Museum of Italian Emigration.
