BASILICA OF SANTA MARIA DI CASTELLO
The Basilica di Santa Maria is one of the oldest and most important Christian places of worship in Genoa.
One of the oldest and most important places of Christian worship in Genoa, the building was rebuilt in Romanesque style in the 12thcentury on the ruins of an early Christian temple. In 1441, Pope Eugene IV assigned the religious complex to the Dominicans, who embellished the building by adding a convent, two cloisters and several chapels for the city's noble families. Even the Monegasque Grimaldi royal family (originally from Genoa) has its own chapel here.
