SANTA MARIA ASSUNTA
Basilica representing one of the most harmonious examples of Renaissance and Baroque architecture.
On the hill of Carignano, this basilica represents one of the most harmonious examples of Renaissance and Baroque architecture in Genoa. Built by Galeazzo Alessi (1550), it was built on a Latin cross plan inscribed in a quadrilateral. Its dome and the ornaments of the façade date back to the 17th century. Inside, white walls, white marble sculptures (signed by Pierre Puget) and large openings bring great light to the place. There are many rich paintings to be seen, including those of Domenico Piola and his son Paolo Gerolamo.
