THE LANTERNA
Symbol of the city, the largest lighthouse in the Mediterranean is one of the pride of Genoa. Indispensable for a souvenir photo.
Built in 1543, Genoa's 77-metre-high lighthouse, La Lanterna, rises 117 metres above sea level. A symbol of the city and dear to the hearts of the Genoese, it is the highest lighthouse in the Mediterranean. The lighthouse promenade was built on the remains of the walls that supported the old access road to Genoa. A museum collects documents and testimonials on the city's history. For safety reasons, the panoramic terrace (over 172 steps) is only accessible to six people at a time.
