VILLA DURAZZO PALLAVICINI
A perfect example of a manor house easily accessible by regional train.
Easily accessible by regional trains, the palazzo is just a few steps from the station. Designed in 1618 by Bartolomeo Bianco, the villa is a perfect example of a mansion, decorated in an original and lavish manner, anticipating the elegant structures of Via Garibaldi. The later park, designed by architect Michele Canzio between 1840 and 1846, is not to be outdone. It falls into the category of Liguria's remarkable gardens. Spanning 8 hectares, it is a succession of well-kept green spaces, waterways and small lakes reflecting the vegetation, with water lilies, romantic fountains and pagoda bridges, and is particularly beautiful in spring. Giant palms and cacti keep watch all year round. It's a real scenography, inspired by the lyric opera models of the Romantic era. After passing by the small neoclassical temples, the neo-medieval castle and the botanical garden, you reach the villa. Today, it houses the Ligurian Archaeology Museum, whose permanent collection features the region's most extensive collection of prehistoric, protohistoric, Paleolithic ( Grotta delle Arene Candide tombs), pre-Roman (rich collections from the Genoa necropolis) and Greco-Roman finds (Principe Oddone di Savoia collection). One room is devoted to Roman marbles, another to ancient Egypt (sarcophagus, mummy and funerary statuette from Pasherienas).
