PIAZZA CAMPETTO
A square in Genoa, home to a number of important palaces, with a statue of Hercules and a fountain in the center.
The square's elongated shape dates back to the Middle Ages. It is bordered by important palaces: the Palazzo Imperiale atno. 8, and atno. 2 the Palazzo Casareto or del Melograno, named after the pomegranate tree that grows on the second floor. Now home to a department store, push open the door to admire the17th-century statue of Hercules on the first floor and the delicate18th-century marble votive chapel on the1st floor. In the center of the square, a high fountain bearing the town's coat of arms (1643) used to provide water without having to bend down.
