Fisherman's village of postcard, with its small beach, its boats, its glaciers and its romantic sunset...
This small fishing port, almost in the centre of town, appears like a "city within a city" to the visitor who discovers it in wonder from the busy Corso Italia.
Almost inaccessible by car, it is almost impossible to park there (it is better to take the bus n°15), you will not find here any bathing establishment on the small pebble beach, but just a few bathers who put their towel the time to take a dip. Watched over by the church of Sant'Antonio, filled with ex-votos in the form of model ships, Boccadesse has all the makings of a postcard village: a few houses with pastel-coloured facades, a small square, the piazzetta where young people gather at aperitif time, a few fishing boats and a jetty of rocks from which to admire the view of the Portofino promontory.
The foundation of the village dates back to the Middle Ages, when a group of fishermen stranded on the beach decided to build a village. The name comes from the Genoese dialect böcca d'ase, "donkey's mouth", because of its particularly concave shape.
Today the fishermen are still there, they resist but the time when Boccadasse lived only from fishing is long gone: ice cream parlours, bistros and some picturesque bars attract young and old in search of a romantic setting. The Genoese come here to escape the heat and the city centre for an ice cream, an aperitif or a romantic dinner. If you have the opportunity, go there at sunset: the atmosphere is absolutely magical!
