VILLA MAGNI
Monastery for the Barnabite fathers belonging to the Ollandini family.
Built in the 16th century as a monastery for the Barnabite fathers, Villa Magni is famous for having been home to Percy Shelley. The villa belonged to the Ollandini family and, in the spring of 1822, it was rented by Percy Bisshe Shelley and his wife Mary - they lived here until the shipwreck in which the poet drowned. This dramatic episode, together with Lord Byron's frequent travels, gave rise in part to the myth of the Poets' Gulf. Today, the villa is privately owned and rarely open to the public (information at the tourist office).
