Ligurian Gothic terraced church set on a sheer cliff face.
Situated on a sheer cliff face, protected from the onslaught of the sea, this13th-century church is said to have been built on the foundations of an earlier 6th-century Paleo-Christian structure erected on the site of a Roman temple dedicated to Venus. The Ligurian Gothic edifice was part of the town's fortifications. Its dominant position on the promontory is Portovenere's signature postcard. Climb up to the terrace to enjoy the view!
