Genoese military fortress hosting exhibitions, conferences and weddings in Portovenere.
This military fortress was remodeled in the 16th and 17th centuries, when the Genoese demolished the medieval castle dating from 1161 to reinforce its military defenses. The complex is pentagonal in plan, with three bastions facing the sea and a fourth circular tower facing the hill. The well-preserved fortress hosts exhibitions, conferences and weddings. From the top of the ramparts, the view of the sea is marvellous, especially at sunset.
