FORTEZZA FIRMAFEDE
Imposing military fortress offering regular temporary exhibitions in Sarzana.
The imposing military fortress designed by Lorenzo the Magnificent (1449-1492) was built between 1488 and 1492 on the foundations of an earlier Pisan fortress, when the city was under Medici rule. The rectangular plan with six bastions is attributable to the great architects Giuliano da Sangallo, Francione and Luca del Caprina. Inside the fortress: regular temporary exhibitions. A small adjacent museum, the Mudef, illustrates garrison life and the defensive strategy of Lunigiana's fortresses and castles.
