CIMITERO DI MANAROLA
Discreet cemetery nestled on the heights of the village of Manarola.
Nestled on the heights of the village and surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, the small but discreet Manarola cemetery overlooks the sea and its vastness. The old portal still seems to be open to visitors and tourists. While walking around, one experiences a strange impression (between empty tombs, some abandoned, or a pink chapel that looks abandoned...) that contrasts with a deep sense of calm and serenity. Moreover, silence is always respected in this place. There are no graves on the ground. Here, the graves take place in curious rectangular buildings, covered with white marble slabs and yellow flower bouquets... Most of them have medallions with a photograph of the deceased. Not to mention the very photographed inscription of the cemetery, signed Vincenzo Cardarelli, Italian poet of the 20th century. The poem, written in black and white, is visible from afar. A unique place exposed to the natural elements, which informs us about the pride of the inhabitants of Manarola. The latter are very attached to their cemetery, which is why it is advisable not to be noisy during the visit.
