CASTLE OF RIOMAGGIORE
Castle built in 1260 overlooking the town of Riomaggiore.
Built in 1260 by the Turcotti marquises to counter recurrent Saracen incursions, the small fortified castle dominates the village of Riomaggiore. Enlarged by the Genoese in the 15th and 16th centuries, the inner courtyard served as a cemetery from the 19th century until the late 1940s. All that remains of the original construction are the curtain walls and two imposing round towers. Opposite the château stands the small oratory of Saints Roch and Sebastian, erected in the 15th century following a plague epidemic, to thank the saints for the danger averted.

Le château se visite à nouveau. Intéressant sans plus. Montez par le haut du village plutôt que par la pente et les escaliers raides depuis le port
