BRITISH WAR CEMETERY
Ranville military cemetery, near Pegasus Bridge, where British soldiers are buried.
Near the Pegasus Bridge, the Ranville military cemetery (the first commune liberated in France) is, after Bayeux, the largest in terms of the number of graves. 2,564 soldiers are buried there, including 2,152 British. The youngest was under 16... Among them is Private Brotheridge, a passenger on one of the first six gliders to land at Pegasus Bridge on the night of June 5-6, 1944. He was the first British soldier to be killed on Normandy soil.
