Timetable

Stores are often closed on Monday mornings (except for major chains and in the city center), and open from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm and from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm and from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Downtown stores are open all day and on Sundays.

Budget & Tips

If you're looking for the latest catwalk piece, but are put off by the price, take a look at DMAG, a downtown outlet offering discounted styles from the world's leading luxury brands. When it comes to decorating, it's not uncommon to find pretty things at good prices in the flea markets of Brera and Navigli. For design enthusiasts, the Kartell outlet in Noviglio, 20 km south of Milan, offers the brand's products at knock-down prices.

Sales

The winter sales begin a week after Christmas, around January 5, while the summer sales start in the first week of July. As in France, many brands seek to attract customers with year-round promotions.

What's very local

Those with a sweet tooth won't be able to leave Milan without packing a panettone. This brioche cake with candied fruit, although a Christmas speciality, can now be found all year round in the best grocery stores. As for cheese lovers, they'll leave with a slice of Grana Padano!
