DOGANA DI MARE
Located at the point east of Dorsoduro, the Sea Customs was founded in the th century and rebuilt at the end of the th century. Its function was the inspection of vessels that migrated to the St. Mark basin. Its summit has two bronze atlases, which carry a huge golden sphere with a vane, a symbol of Fortune, which turns on the winds.
If the visitors who hurry at the entrance to the museum of contemporary art are to admire Mr Pinault's collections, the point of the Customs is particularly suitable for walks at the sunset; a relatively quiet area, one of the most beautiful views of the lagoon. And as Henri de Régnier wrote: " At the hot wind of the lagoon, which directs it to its will, I saw your fortune, O Dogana di Mare! '.
