ACTV is Venice's public transport company. Vaporetto fare: €9.50 (valid for 1h15). Package/pass: €25 for 24h; €35 for 48h; €45 for 72h and €65 for 7 days.
Here are the major lines:
Lines 1 and 2 : Line 1 links Lido to Piazzale Roma (AR) via the Grand Canal.No. 2 follows the same route except that it also serves Tronchetto and Giudecca.
Lines 4.1, 4.2, 5.1 and 5.2: Circular lines. They run mainly outside the city, and are ideal for trips to Murano, Giudecca or Sant'Elena.

Pour visiter Venise, à part la marche, le plus pratique est de prendre un pass ACTV. Nous avons pris un pass pour 2 jours qui nous a coûté 30e par personne. On l'utilise autant de fois qu'on le souhaite. Indispensable pour visiter Burano, Murano et le Lido.

The vaporetti company ACTV are the best way to understand Venice. The unique journey is expensive but it is advisable to buy passes it valid for 1.2 or 3 days.

I have just returned from Venice and want to add information to the opinion left previously:
unlimited passes should not necessarily be bought in advance on the Internet on site buy them in Venice, in most ticket offices.
Moreover there are all sorts of pass according to your needs:
- one way at €6.50 (which is not a pass)
- pass 12:00: 16€
- pass 24:00: 18€
- pass 36h: 23€
- pass 48h: 28€
- pass 72h: 33€
- for 7 days: 50€

De retour en fin d'après-midi nous en avons profité pour aller sur l'île de S.Giorgio afin de monter sur le Campanile (vue sur Venise sublime).
De même l'utilisation d'un vaporetto sur la ligne empruntant le grand canal permettra de rentabiliser le coût de ce moyen de transport.
Sinon Venise se visite tout aussi bien (voire mieux à pied)
Enfin le personnel n'est pas toujours très accueillant !!! Certains sont désagréables (coups de coude volontaires lors des manoeuvres d'accostage alors qu'il etait impossible de bouger vu le monde sur le bateau ....)
