GENERATOR HOSTEL
Much more than a youth hostel, here is a colourful and warm place to meet people or just to sip a drink.
Former grain warehouses converted into a youth hostel 65 years ago. Design decor and cosy interiors for a "hostel" renovated in 2013, which has established itself as one of the most pleasant and trendy in Veneto. To sleep in one of its pretty dormitories or double rooms, you'll need a youth hostel card (which you can buy on site). Happy hour from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in the bar area. Shared breakfast on rustic tables. Book well in advance, as the Generator attracts backpackers from all over the world.

The Good:
- Location.
- The coffee
The Bad:
- No kitchen, kitchenette, kettle or anywhere to prepare food. Want to bring in take out to eat? Nope cant eat food not purchased at the hostel in the common area or rooms.
- Bathrooms are terribly designed and dirty. Dirt always on the floor and broken shower fittings. Arranged facing each other so I am watching other people shower through (mostly) see-through glass.
- The hostel is a chain, and comes off as money hungry. Forgot ear plugs (even though we are blasting music) that will cost you. Need to leave your luggage, that will cost you. Need a mug of hot water, that will cost you….
- There is not chill area to sit, other than the rooms, you can only sit on the ground floor, which is constantly playing music, and branded with cliche millennial slogans (including b roll of DJ Kalid playing daily)
The Ugly:
- On party nights the entire ground level of the hostel turns into a club. Listening to thrift-shop blasting while you are in bed is pretty bad. But worse than that, there is no key card entry between the club and the levels where the rooms are, so you can find 18 year-olds running around on your level liking each other a bit too much in the bathrooms (yes i was unlucky enough to walk in on this).
No kitchen/kitchenette, nowhere to chill and eat your own food and having to pay 0.5€ for hot water sucks.
Mouldy and poorly designed bathrooms.
Downstairs turned into a club on the Saturday night we were there and people in the club can access the floors where the rooms are. I walked past numerous people hooking up in the stairwell and banging in the bathroom.
Has a safe vibe which is great and cappuccinos were yum.
Firstly, they have a problem with double booking beds. People are arriving and their beds aren't available. They have a history of kicking girls out late at night when someone else has taken their bed.
Secondly, the cleaners took some of my clothes and the hostel has refused to refund me. They're ignoring all my emails.
Thirdly, the bathrooms are tiny & gross. Theres no where to get changed without getting wet.
And lastly, the location requires taking a boat ride. Its easy, but its not ideal. Especially if you arrive late and the bed is already full.
