One of the most prestigious international biennials. Visual arts, music, cinema, theater, architecture, dance.
It is one of the oldest (1895) and most prestigious in the world. In the 1930s, new festivals were created (music, cinema, theater), then architecture (1980) and dance (1999) made their debut at the Biennale. The even-numbered years highlight contemporary art, and in the odd-numbered years, the best international architectural firms exhibit at Sestiere Castello, between the Giardini and the Arsenale. Other important biennials are the one in Florence, which focuses on contemporary art and design, and the one in Faenza, which specializes in ceramics.
