CHIESA DEGLI SCALZI
A beautiful baroque style church, with a richly decorated interior, in Venice.
The building, located on the Grand Canal and a few meters from the Santa Lucia train station, was founded by the Order of Discalced Carmelites(scalzi) in 1670. This beautiful baroque church, designed by Longhena, has an interior decorated with multiple columns, polychrome marble and gilded wood carvings. It also preserves some fragments of the fresco by Tiepolo that was destroyed during a bombing in 1915. Another fresco by the same artist (Christ in the Garden of Olives) can be seen in the vault of the third chapel on the left.
