CHIESA SANTA MARIA ASSUNTA
A beautiful church, with an original decoration, one of the most surprising of the Venice lagoon.
The Chiesa Santa Maria Assunta (also known as the Chiesa dei Gesuiti) is strikingly decorated in the early 18th century. In addition to its beautiful Baroque facade, adorned with a Madonna in Assumption, it is notable for its main altar, covered in a green and white damask fabric. In reality, it's a marble trompe-l'oeil, sculpted in bas-relief with remarkable finesse. The Martyrdom of St. Lawrence (Titian) and theAssumption of the Virgin (Tintoretto) are also to be admired.
