SAN MARCO BELL TOWER
A remarkable campanile, the highest in Venice.
96 m high (there is a lift), the campanile of St Mark's is the highest point in the city and, as the Venetians call it, it is also the paròn de casa, the patron saint of the house. The bell tower collapsed at 9:55 am on July 14, 1902. Thanks to donations, it was rebuilt identically (although lightened by 2,000 tons) and inaugurated in 1912. At the top of the bell tower there are 4 bells with special names and meanings: the marangona marked the end and the beginning of the working day; the malefico the executions; the mezza terza summoned the senators to the Doge's Palace and, finally, the trottiera announced the sessions of the Maggior Consiglio.

La haut du Campanile offre une belle vue de Venise, et il y a aussi des machines a pièce souvenir pour les collectionneurs. :-)
