The former general-in-chief Bartolomeo Colleoni must certainly be turning in his grave... This bronze statue, made by Andrea Verrocchio, a great Florentine sculptor and master of Leonardo da Vinci, had indeed been commissioned by Colleoni (in his will) to be placed in St. Mark's Square. Unfortunately, the Republic of Venice circumvented the condottiere's wish, rather skilfully that said, by installing the statue in front of... the Scuola di San Marco.
