NAVAL MUSEUM
Museum that traces the maritime history of Venice through its collection of ship models and navigation instruments.
Museo Navale. This museum, created by the Austrians in 1815, is located at the entrance of the Arsenal. Whether you are a fan or a novice, the maritime history of Venice is on display on 4 floors with an impressive number of model ships? From the Bucintoro, the ceremonial barge of the Doges destroyed by Napoleon in 1897, to the famous galleys, including Peggy Guggenheim's personal gondola, it is a real pleasure to admire these boats that are inseparable from Venetian history and life. This collection of models is complemented by numerous ancient navigation instruments, uniforms, maps (note the intriguing map of Venice by Jacopo de' Barbari, dated 1500), etc. Do not hesitate to embark on this exciting "cruise" through the centuries that will delight adults and children alike. On the second floor, the visit continues with a beautiful exhibition of ancient uniforms, ending on the third floor with a series on shells.
Padiglione delle Navi. Slightly further inland from the Castello district, the Padiglione delle Navi is a grandiose sixteenth-century boathouse that was once used as a depot for ships' oars. In 1577 it was even used as a temporary seat of government for the Serenissima, after a fire that seriously damaged the Ducal Palace. Today you can see all kinds of boats that participated in the greatness of the Venetian Republic on the seas, including some of the latest models of the navy.
