CAMPO MANIN
The monument erected in 1875 in memory of Daniele Manin, hero of the Italian Risorgimento located on the campo in Venice
The monument on the campo was erected in 1875 in memory of Daniele Manin, hero of the Italian Risorgimento, who drove the Austrians out of Venice and governed the city until 1848. Closing off the square to the north, it's hard not to notice one of the few examples of modern Venetian architecture: the building of the Cassa di Risparmio di Venezia (the local savings bank), designed by Pier Luigi Nervi (1891-1979). Built in 1972, this building represents, according to experts, a stylistic break with the rest of the square's historic residences.
