CAMPO SANT' ANGELO
Square with many palaces and a beautiful view of the church of San Stefano in Venice.
The church dedicated to Archangel Michael, which gave its name to the campo, has disappeared, replaced by the Oratorio dell'Annunciata, formerly the College for Disabled Sailors. From Campo Sant'Angelo, enjoy a view of the church of San Stefano and its leaning campanile on the other side of the rio. Several elegant palaces surround the campo, including Palazzo Gritti and Palazzo Duodo (number 3584), where a plaque commemorates the death of composer Domenico Cimarosa in 1801. The area, steeped in history, offers a fascinating blend of architecture and heritage.
