CAMPO SANTA MARGHERITA
Always lively square with various monuments and terraces in Venice.
This wide campo, the result of the filling in of several canals that converged in this area, is always lively. The church of Santa Margherita, now deconsecrated, houses an auditorium. As for its bell tower, originally higher than that of San Marco, it was cut in two in 1808 for fear of collapse. The colorful morning fish market is gradually giving way to students from nearby universities who have made the place their headquarters. The terraces are crowded for aperitifs and the spritz flows freely.
