PIAZZA DEL DUOMO
A beautiful square surrounded by a basilica, a palace and various monuments in Belluno.
This beautiful square is dominated by the Basilica of St. Martin (the city's cathedral), the Palazzo dei Vescovi, the episcopal seat, and above all the Palazzo dei Rettori. A Renaissance masterpiece, this 15th-century palace was the residence of Venetian governors and today houses the prefecture. Enlarged in 1496 by Giovanni Candi, famous for the Bovolo dei Contarini staircase in Venice, it is flanked by the Clock Tower, built between 1536 and 1547 to a design by Valerio da San Vittore, which adds a touch of elegance to the whole.
