PIAZZA DEL DUOMO
A beautiful square surrounded by a basilica, a palace and various monuments in Belluno.
Very beautiful square surrounded by the Basilica of St. Martin (the city's cathedral), by the Palazzo dei Vescovi, the episcopal seat, and especially by the Palazzo dei Rettori. This magnificent Renaissance building (15th century) was the residence of the governors of Venice. Today it is the seat of the prefecture. The palace was enlarged in 1496 by the architect Giovanni Candi (the author of the Bovolo staircase of the Contarini Palace in Venice). The Clock Tower, on the right, was built between 1536 and 1547, according to a project by Valerio da San Vittore.
