PIAZZA DEI MARTIRI
An elegant square near Palazzo Cappelletti della Colomba and the Chiesa di San Rocco in Belluno.
This place is the living room of Belluno. Like an open stage outside the city walls, the square is amazingly elegant. Around it stand the Palazzo Cappelletti della Colomba, in neoclassical style, and the Chiesa di San Rocco (14th century). Until June 3, 1945, it was called Piazza Campitello(Campidel in local dialect), as a reminder that in the past fairs, markets and tournaments were held here. But after that date it was renamed Piazza dei Martiri, in memory of four partisans of the Resistance hanged by the Nazis.
