PONT DES BORDEAUX OU PASSERELLE ARROMANCHES
Whale bridge built by the Allies in 1945 using elements from the Arromanches landing stage (Mulberry B).
Here, on the border between Calvados and Orne, a page of history unfolds. Near the proud railway viaduct that now houses the velorail, a "pont-baleine" of rivets and bolts humbly spans the Noireau. In 1945, the Allies had to quickly rebuild a footbridge to replace the one destroyed in '44. The structures of the bridge are derived from the "whales" of the Arromanches landing stage, which were used to transport equipment and men in June '44.
