LES BRAVES
Les Braves, by French artist Anilore Banon in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer.
On the sands of Omaha Beach, at the foot of the steps of the Signal monument in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, the Braves monumental ensemble is the work of French artist Anilore Banon. Reaching for the sky, the central sculpture, entitled "Debout la liberté!" (Stand up for freedom), is flanked by two others, "Les ailes de l’espoir" (Wings of hope) and "Les ailes de la fraternité" (Wings of fraternity). As the tides ebb and flow, the three sculptures are bathed in the ebb and flow of the waters. A memorial to the 3,000 dead, missing or wounded on the evening of June 6, 1944, who fell on this beach.
