Practical information : Going out Naples
Timetable
Bars are open all week (often with a closing day on Monday) until about 11pm, and until 2 or 3am on Friday and Saturday. Nightclubs are open from Thursday to Saturday. Outside Naples, in the most touristic areas of the coast, discos and bars open until very late every day in high season
The performing arts and opera are well represented in Naples, with several theatres offering a very rich programme. Opera lovers will not want to miss a performance at the mythical San Carlo theatre, which has a fairly extensive programme throughout the year.
Budget & Tips
Depending on the establishment, access to the nightclubs may be subject to a charge with a drink included in the price of admission or require the purchase of a membership card. It's mainly the price of the drinks that will hurt your wallet. At the theatre, the price of a ticket varies depending on the location: seats in the orchestra are the most expensive, those on the top floor (the paradise or chicken coop!), the cheapest. Several bars offerhappy hour, during which drinks are at a reduced price. Some also offeraperitivo, a good plan for a light meal without breaking the bank: for the price of your drink, you can choose among the appetizers that are presented at the buffet. Finally, note that the bars in the university district offer the best prices: they are located near San Giovanni Maggiore and Santa Maria la Nova.
To be booked
To ensure a seat, reservations are highly recommended for shows and operas.
Night transport
Buses run from 5am-6am and stop between 11pm and midnight. Some lines also operate at night but with low frequency. The metro runs from 6am to 11pm. On Saturdays, this schedule is extended to 1:30 am. For convenience, you can always take a taxi.
Age restrictions
Each nightclub has its own rules and regulations. The legal drinking age is, in any case, 18 years. Make sure you keep your ID card with you at all times so that you can show it at the entrance of the establishment if necessary.
What's very local
To experience Neapolitan nightlife, head to the baretti area, in the Chiaia district. "Going to the baretti (literally "little bars") is an expression that has become part of the common language of the city's young partygoers; it means going to the bars of Chiaia, where the city's movida is concentrated
Neapolitans are very careful about what they wear. Going out is a serious matter that must be prepared! In most nightclubs, a dress code is required.
