Lovers of arid lands and hiking will find plenty to do in Djibouti. Walking can be difficult, given the climate. But if you're well looked after, you'll enjoy an exceptional experience, discovering areas inaccessible by vehicle and spending the night under the stars. The 4x4 can complement or replace the walk. Sports enthusiasts can even take part in the Grand Barra cross-country race (15 km) organized every December by the French army. Scuba diving enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy. On the safety front, for the more anxious, you should know that Djibouti has a fully operational decompression chamber at the French military base. Approved diving clubs, such as Dolphin Excursions, can access it 24/7 all year round, in case of emergency. That said, dives are strictly supervised and comply with all safety regulations.

From mid-October to the end of February, whale shark-watching season remains a highlight of any visit to Djibouti, promising an unforgettable experience. These harmless giants of the deep sea come to the clear waters of the Gulf of Tadjourah every year to feed on plankton. You can observe them at the surface and even swim alongside them. Djibouti is one of the few places in the world where you can observe them. A memorable experience.
