CHIESA DI SANTA FOSCA
Church of octagonal plan, a beautiful testimony of Venetian-Byzantine architecture in Torcello.
Connected to the cathedral by a wonderful portico (it is a few meters to the left of the basilica of Santa Maria Assunta), the church of Santa Fosca was built in the 11th and 12th centuries. It has an octagonal plan, in the shape of a Greek cross with a portico supported by Byzantine capitals, and is another beautiful example of Venetian-Byzantine architecture. It has a beautiful portico with raised arches resting on marble columns with sculpted capitals. The extremely sober interior is crowned by a circular wooden drum.
