The Recluse Madness Museum on the island of San Servolo is a poignant testimony to the history of the psychiatric hospital that operated from the 18th century to 1978. In a sober room, long showcases display straitjackets, chains and medicines, evoking the methods used to "cure" patients. The tour continues with the autopsy room, then lightens up with the former 18th-century pharmacy, adorned with wood panelling and over 200 ceramic pots. At the end of the tour, you can take the vaporetto back to the island of San Lazzaro.
