MECHITARISTA MONASTERO
Monastery with an important library, a picture library and a museum in San Lazzaro.
A haven of peace appreciated by Lord Byron and many other men of letters, this monastery where a dozen monks live houses a vast library where 150,000 old books are kept as well as a collection of illuminations. The site also has a printing press dating from the end of the 18th century (unique in the world!) and a picture library. The mechitarist museum exhibits a collection of Armenian, Greek and Indian archaeological objects. Before leaving the monastery, take a walk in the cloister and in the gardens where, in the good season, the roses bloom.
