TORRE DONÀ
A remarkable tower in Rovigo, one of the most imposing in Veneto.
The Donà tower, one of the most imposing in the region, stands alongside its neighbor, the Torre Mozza, as the last vestige of the fortified castle erected in 920 by Bishop Paolo Cattaneo of Adria. Faced with barbarian invasions, the latter transferred his episcopal see to Rovigo, inspired, according to legend, by a vision of St. Peter appearing to him with a staff decorated with red roses, a divine sign pointing him to this refuge. Of this imposing medieval fortress, only these two towers remain today, historic symbols watching over the town.
